What Was April Like?

Where did April go?

I'm not the greatest with time. Things often feel like they happened years ago, when it's been a week, or a month can feel like it's been half a life time. I'm constantly saying "yesterday" when I mean last week... or sometimes when I mean tomorrow. Time and I... we tend not to acknowlege eachother's existence. It's a bad habit. I think we're both working on it. (maybe)

Mostly, the month has been about getting back to normal. It's a weird task we've set ourselves, normalizing from what had become our normal.

I did a lot of writing, Earl did his own. I drank a lot of tea - the new Keurig got a hell of a work out. Lucy was adorable as usual....

As far as equalizing goes, I think we've done pretty well. Hopefully May will bring us new adventures as well as our own sort of peace and quiet. I'm itching to hit the road again.

Update (4/52, 5/52, 6/52, & 7/52)

Holy moley! Where have I been?

So basically… this encompasses all of February up until this point.

(4/52 Before the latest trim of the dead blonde at the bottom)
On the first, we took a long drive with our wedding photographer and did our engagement shoot. It was a lot of fun, and the images I’ve seen from it so far are wonderful.

(5/52 Post Haircut/Pre drive through the wilds)

I’m still working with Noah at Ro5 (previously Volr) to deal with the damage from dying my hair gray – I’m still really sad that didn’t work out. But I’m getting back to mostly healthy hair, and I’m starting to appreciate the fun (if completely wild) curl.

(6/52 THE CRAZY CURLS OF WHOA)

I’ve also spent the last two weeks talking myself out of starting a full re-watch of all three Stargate series.

We lost our rehearsal dinner space, and then our wedding venue in the space of four days. Last week was crazy stressful. And I definitely cried more than once about it. Frustration is like the easiest way to open up my tear ducts. But we’ve got that whole mess sorted out and we’re slowly working on getting things back to normal. And I’m still making flowers every spare chance I can get.

And I’ve been scrambling to get a HUGE amount of writing done, I signed on for a new project with a friend, wrote a birthday present Novella the last week in Jan/First week in February, and am still trying to stay on top of these blogs.

Short version – I’ve been doing a lot of wedding related stuff and watching tons of Top Gear to get me through the stress of last week.

(7/52 - also, lot's of time snuggling with this cutie pie)
ETA: I just noticed all my shirts in these pictures are teal. I own a lot of teal.

Random Stuff From my Brain (2/52)

It’s the second full week of the year, and I’m still drinking a ridiculous amount of tea. (Huge surprise, I know – I’ve got a cup at my elbow as I write this now.)

Friend Alison pointed me toward a tumbler account, and – neurotic cleaner that I am – I’ve fallen in love. The tumbler is UnF*ckYourHabitat and it is a marvelous thing. Super motivating. And lots of before and after pictures, plus a solid plan for how to get yourself to living a less messed-up life.

Earl’s on the pager this week, so that means lots of stressful checking of the second phone… and no chance of going out at all until Friday. Mostly I’m missing the fact we can’t do long dog walks in the evenings.

Also, because I posted a picture on another blog Monday, my mother has discovered we have the same 365 tear-away calendar! The New Wordeach day one. Which is a fun little thing. I got mine from Earl’s dad as part of Christmas, and… well, I don’t know where she got hers, but I do think that’s pretty awesome.

I – the world’s worst phone-call maker EVER – finally got a call in to Lucy’s groomer. I should really just set up a recurring appointment. But my scruffy little ewok is going to get her crazy long hair dealt with! Just not this week… next.

And we’ve been going through the loads of Top Gear episodes on Hulu we haven’t watched yet – and some of the ones we’ve already seen too. They’re great for when you’re doing other things.

And here we have a look at my River Song hair.

The First Week of the New Year (1/52)

I always think things are going to feel different at the beginning. But they rarely do.

The first week of January has been a bit of a rollercoaster. There was a birthday and cheesecakes. There was a major surgery in the family that went… well enough. It fixed the problem and now it’s just a matter of getting on the mend.

I tested out a “known truth” that ended up proving false. When I was in middle school/high school, I’d get these terrible migraines. And I was pretty sure it was because of the phosphoric acid in pepsi. My mom and stepdad kept cases of it around the house. And I didn’t like it all that much, but sometimes I’d drink one – if I was running out of the house or whatever. It took a while to figure out, but there was a pattern that I’d end up getting the migraine when I drank one. So I looked through the ingredients list and compared it with other things I drank that I didn’t have issue with and phosphoric acid was the only thing I could find that was out of the ordinary.

But, I drank a root beer this weekend that had the dreaded ingredient… and nothing happened. So. That’s nice. I still won’t be drinking colas (again, mostly because I don’t like them).

Also, it seems that this is the week where I officially  hit the point where the majority of my close friends have officially become the sort of adults who own houses. One just got a contract Monday, one is in the final stages of a contract, and another moved in to her first house less than a month ago! I’m super happy and excited for all of them! I just resigned a lease on my apartment, and am not looking at houses. I have too much on my plate to worry about that anyway!

[1/52]
I actually forgot to take this until practically the last second!
I like to think of it as a baseline. I've done exactly nothing.

Also this week, I added some reviews to the index:

Goals: Closet update!

So, it's not done yet, but it definitely looks better! This was done mostly with a few spare moments and a serious glare at reorganizing.

I guess instead of "after" I should have put during. I still have plans for ways to make it better yet. But those things take time and some creative shopping. That grey tub in front of the shelving unit is the china set Earl's Grandmother gave us... that we're searching out a hutch for. I thought I'd found one... but I'm not sure that's going to work out, which is a little sad. Oh well.

See that box above the ore and "before"? That was a box of things to take to Goodwill that I totally forgot about! This is why it's a good thing to pay attention to what's in your closet...

Here's a bigger picture of the closet... in it's re-organized glory.
