Short & Sweet. That's Something I'll Never Get Tired Of.

29. What is something you could never get tired of doing?

Let’s start with a few things I’m very tired of doing… unpacking, cleaning, telling my dog to stop barking at things out the window….

I’m a reader. I have a novel with me at all times. It’s kind of like a prerequisite. I don’t think I’ll ever get tired of reading. Ever.

The Fall

28. Tell us about your favorite movie.

My favorite movie came out in 2008... and I drove 2 hours south to go see it because someone in their blemishless wisdom desided that one showing at four on a friday was enough for phoenix... luckily, it played for a whole 4 showings in tuscon (two hours south) and I made the drive to see it.

Tarsem Singh's The Fall is the most beautiful movie I have ever seen. I emplore you to find a copy and watch it. You shant be disappointed. (and yes, it has Lee Pace in it - the guy who played Ned in Pushing Daisies)

Here's the trailer:

What Is The Measure Of A Year?

27. Post a picture of you last year and now. How have you changed?

This first picture is of my old roommate and I from a year ago (well, December of 2009 so not qute a year ago.)
This picture is from "now" I would have taken a picture today and posted it... but the move has me questioning the exact location of my camera cord...
Since last year I've moved twice, I've chopped off all of my hair and I've gotten the bottom half of my sleeve outlined and partially colored in... Also, I've finished four more novels... and I'm sure there are other things too....

In Which You Get A Photo Dump!

26. Post a photo of somewhere you’ve been to.

Get ready for the photo dump!

Coos Bay, OR
( I dont remember where I got this picture, but I love it. It is a wonderful reminder of the small costal town I spent the first 18 years of my life in)

Denver, CO
(This is Grant. He used to live in Denver and we stayed with him one trip. I took this photo less than 10 seconds after he began to detail that he wanted a slide show of horrible pictures of him to play at his funeral.)

Jerome, AZ
(This little mountain-side village in northern Arizona is pictureseque... except when someone wrecks their 5th wheel on the narrow street, as seen in this pocture)

Mount St. Helens, WA
(This bridge looked too pretty in the fog of the morning, I couldnt help but snatcha a photo of it.)

Moab, UT
(North Window Arch in Arches National Park, Earl and I have made a promise that we are going to go back to this park and spend more time there. It was breathtaking)

Pangutich, UT
(This picture was taken on my birthday - that's right, in March - For most of the day it was pleasent and sunny... and then, a blizzard hit and we had to stop here for the night. Also, Earl had already scraped off a lot of the snow by the time I got this picture.)

Capitol Reef National Park, UT
(See those clouds? That's the blasted blizzard from the picture above.)

San Diego, CA
(Please ignore the hair. I know it's attrocious. It was raining and just... yeah. Please to ignore)

Santa Cruz, CA
(This little beach is tucked away off Hwy 101, and is one of the most picturesque places I've ever been)

I Need To Clean Out My Purse – A List 2.0

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!!!!!!!

So, anyway, right now I'm at home working on day two of our Venture Brother's marathon. Earl's mom is doing dinner on sunday to accomodate for several schedules... and I'm off until tuesday, so Earl and I are hunkered down to watch seasons 1 through 4.1 of the hillarible cartoon.

This meme requires I tell you something today though (even if you probably wont read it until monday), so here you go:

25. What’s in your handbag?

Back in July, I posted the first version of this list and now you get to see what, if anything has changed.

A Novel - Heart Chaser (young adult SF) by Thomas Locke
A Water Bottle – 1.5 liter Arrowhead ( this puppy only costs me a buck at Fresh and easy… why would I buy a smaller bottle for twice the price?)
My fifth novel – which I should be editing right now... I’ll continue to watch Venture brothers instead
A Notebook - Green, Mead, spiral bound, 120 pages, college ruled
Steno book - also green
Wallet - (Including $1.83 in change, 1 stamp, 30 cards for my tattoo artist, bank card, drivers license, Barnes & Nobel card, Petco and pet smart cards, Insurance cards, Doctor’s business card, 2-year pass to sea world & Annual pass to all of the National parks.)
My cell phone – Soooo happy I get to throw that away next month
Sunglasses – I really need to find a new pair of these, but I hate the mall and I can never find ones I actually like anyway… so I’m sticking with this old pair that’s scratched to hell and doesn’t actually fit well.
3 pens - Red, Blue & Black.
Lotion - Bath and Body Works Optimism Hand cream in Bright Blossoms (3fl oz)
ChapStick - Strawberry
My keys – If I leave the building without these I’ll be in a world of hurt.
Bobby pin – in case my bangs decide to make threats toward my life.
USB Drive – my lifeline when I’m away from my laptop.
Post it with my dog groomer’s information on it – Lucy really needs a cut.
Alright kiddos, that was fun, now go enjoy your turkey and stuffing!

The Post-it That Means The Most-it

24. Post a photo of something that means a lot to you.

I'm actually not going to put up a picture of this because well, its my phone number, and I'm not stupid.

More specifically, its a post it note with my phone number written in pencil in Earl's wallet. I gave that note to him approximately two years ago when I told him to give me a call if he was interested... in helping me move. That's right, I solicited him for his moving skills (they guy did work in furniture/delivery/moving for upteen years). He didnt use the number for two days, but he eventually did and well, Friday is our two year anniversary, you can do the math on that one.

Ladies and gentlemen, hooligans and whores, that post-it is still in his wallet.

And that means a lot to me.

Factosion Explosion!

23. Post 15 facts about you

1. My eyes, though blue can often look green. This is because I have some nifty yellow striations that expand and contract…. When they expand my eyes look blue. There is not one instance in my school photos of two consecutive years when my eye color matched.

2. I grew up being bounced back and forth between farm life and (little) city life. When my parents divorced, I was four-years old, my mother continued to live in town and my father moved out to a house on my grandfather’s farm. With joint custody, I spent a lot of time at both places and also spent time on my grandmother’s (mom’s mom) farm.

3. I can’t abide people who feel the need to make themselves seem special. Be yourself.

4. My favorite way to eat mashed potatoes is with peas mixed in.

5. Per Jenna: I had long curly hair (that looks red when the sun hits it) waaaay before Bella Swan did.

6. If I stay on schedule (aka: don’t get too distracted by the holidays) I will have “completed”* 5 novels this year.

7. I don’t like change. What I do like? Plans. I’m a planner and a list maker. No ifs, ands or buts about it. Also Excel is my best friend… that is, it would be if you could be best friends with a piece of software.

8. I have seven piercings. Three in my left ear, two in my right, my nose and my navel. The most painful getting pierced was my rook, the least painful was my nose ring. The easiest to heal was my navel; the longest to heal was my industrial. I only have plans for one more piercing – the helix on my right ear.

9. I am an amateur photog. I love taking pictures (of places and things, not so much people) and I would love to have a kickass camera and adobe photoshop… but the whole amateur part of this pastime means I’m not able to spend much money on it :(

10. The boyfriend and I are one of those couples that… when no one else is around… are completely stupid silly at times. We try to convince ourselves that we are not the only ones who partake in the strange noises and odd conversations that we do… even if no one else does it… it makes me feel a little more sane.

11. When I was 18, I moved from Coos Bay, OR ( a place that gets 350 days of rain each year and is terminally “chilly”) to Phoenix, AZ ( a place that gets much less rain – and when it does rain it smells like mold – and generally has 100 days over 100)

12. Sometimes I think that people think I’m crazy when I talk about the characters in my novels as though they’re real.

13. I have four tattoos, one of which encompasses my entire left arm. I wanted a tattoo from the time I was 7 (my mom often got mad at me for drawing on myself – freshman year of highschool I drew an entire sleeve of spiderwebs during 2nd period.) I didn’t get my first tattoo until I was 20.

14. I bake like nobody’s business. Some have hunting seasons… I have baking seasons. You want a good cheesecake, talk to me, I’ll hook you up ;)

15. I’m so boring that thinking up 15 facts about myself took forever!

* Completed does not exactly mean finished. It means that the first draft of said novel is done.

In Which Jenna Is Shown For The Bee-otch She Is!

22. Write a letter to someone who's hurt you recently.

Dear “friend,”

I hurt you? You obviously have things backwards. You are the one who has hurt me! You delusional hussy! I have no problem with your life partner, regardless of his choices to pierce or not pierce any part of his body. My only issue with him is that he is constantly trying to pull you away from me, and we all know how needy I am. You do at least. We have a verbal agreement! Or have you forgotten that while you were making up these horrible things.

As for your assertion that I am the one who has ruined your movie watching experience. I only text or talk throughout the movies, because you have dreadful taste in them. Seriously, who needs another cheerleader movie? Not I.

Speaking of delusions! “That time in high school,” are you kidding me…. As if I would have ever hung out with a cheerleader in high school. I avoided your types like the plague. My art was too precious to have it sullied by your popularity! So I think you’re battiness is showing here. If I did go to PCG with you, you must obviously have offered to pay. I am not the kind who walks out on a tab and I have never once drank six vodka martinis. In fact. I hate martinis. You’re obviously mistaken.

As for your wedding. The minister deserved to be flipped off. He was obviously trying to peak up my skirt. And frankly, my objection was completely founded. You are a bitch and he didn’t know it til I told him. The fact that he chose to marry you anyway is on him. The wine… oh, that dreadful wine. I didn’t think it was a Greek wedding. That wine was so awful I had to save anyone else from it, so I smashed the bottle to save others the pain. Frankly the scar you received from that shard that hit you in the face is quite appealing. Scars add character (heaven knows you needed it).

You suck,

Amy

If You're Happy And You Know It, Clap Your Hands! (Or Paws)

21. Post a photo of something that makes you happy

Lucy had to go stay at “Grandma’s” for a few days while we moved all of our stuff over and I’ve missed her a ton. She’s exploring her new home today, but this cute little mug makes me smile every time I see her.

Would A Rose By Any Other Name Smell As Sweet?

20. What is the meaning of your blog name?

You dont have to look far (just up) to know that this blog is called “The Unexamined Life” I took this from a quote by Socrates:
The unexamined life is not worth living.
To me this meant a few things, but the most important of the things it means for me is tied to knowing ourselves.

If we do not examine our own lives, and look for the detrimental patterns in them, how then can we seek to better ourselves? And if we are stuck in a cycle of stagnation, how then can we truly call what we are doing… living?

My life certainly isn’t under a microscope from anyone else (at least not that I know of) so why shouldn’t I be the one to examine my unexamined life?

Two Years, Two Of Those Stupid Mortar Board Hats.

19. Post another picture of yourself.

This doesnt specify what kind of picture, or when from, so we're going to hop back 4 years.

(In June of 2006, I graduated from Southwestenr Oregon Community College with my ASG. This picture was taken at my grandmother's house just before going to the PAC. Due to the staggering amount of college courses I took during my senior year of high school, I earned my associates one year after graduating from Marshfield.)

Things I crave: A List

18. What is something you crave a lot?

  • A Good Book
  • Cuppuchino Gelato
  • Lemon Sorbetto
  • Beef Barley Soup
  • Crab Puffs (from Abacus)
  • Green Tamales (from Carlos O’Briens)
  • [Real] Shepherd’s Pie (from Tim Finnegans)
  • Vegetarian Shepherd’s Pie (from Rula Bula)

(Me, Mom & Grandma; circa 2006)

(Earl and I at Arces National Park)

Munn's the word

Day 16. Who is your Celebrity Crush?

As noted in my five, my celebrity crush is Olivia Munn. I just really like her and... I mean, why wouldn't you?

Pick Me Up Before You Go-Go

15. What is something you can’t leave the house without

My keys – Mostly because I can’t lock the door without them.

My Cellphone – I may not use it a lot… but it’s always a good idea to have a way to get ahold of someone.

ChapStik – If this happens I’m not a happy camper. No sir-ee.

Small town. Big secret. When beauty meets the Brains. Johnny Quest is Jonesin’!

14. Tell us about a TV Show you’re currently addicted to

Eureka: Smart, funny, and unfortunately on their midseason break at the moment. I’m dying for the Christmas special to get here.

Big Bang Theory: Clever, hilarious and always makes you look forward to Thursday nights. Sheldon always makes me smile, especially when he’s battling his arch-nemesis – Wil Wheaton.

Venture Bros: Who says you can be too old for Cartoons? Wacky and often perverse, this spoof of a Johnny Quest-style show is one of the best time killers ever. We’re actually planning to watch all four seasons that are on DVD over Thanksgiving, as we’ll be settling into our new apartment down town!

It's A Rat Trap Baby, And You've Been Caught

13. Who's your favorite Musician and Why?

The Boomtown Rats have been my favorite band since highschool even though the band officially broke up before I was born.

This is their most famous song in the US:

I Never Loved Eva Braun is my favorite.

I really love their sound and their wimsical lyrics.

Here in the home I love

12. Post a picture of the town in which you live.

This is the city I live in. This is actually the part of the city I'm moving to next week... because things happen in weird ways and at weird times...

Mirror, Mirror On The Wall...

11. What’s in your makeup bag?

I generally don’t wear makeup. My beauty regime consists of Aveeno Positively Radiant Cleanser & Moisturizer followed by Strawberry ChapStick.

On special occasions I’ll bust out the “big guns, meaning: Covergirl Cheekers in Snow Plum and some NYC grey eye shadow that I don’t remember the name of.
