Lucyface Post

So, since I’ve been absent a while, I haven’t posted any more of my adorable snurgle face, Lucy. I’m thinking I might be lazy and just make several  “Lucy day” posts through out the month and bombard you with a face full of her adorableness.
Let’s just pretend like I’ll be able to stick with that no matter what and that this is going to be the first of such posts

Always ready and willing to receive belly rubs!
 Such a Happy Puppy!
And she had her annual checkup and the vaccines made her super sad and not wanting to walk, but one pain pill and she was over it.
And she finally got a haircut!

Not that she was happy about it or anything....

What Was April Like?

Where did April go?

I'm not the greatest with time. Things often feel like they happened years ago, when it's been a week, or a month can feel like it's been half a life time. I'm constantly saying "yesterday" when I mean last week... or sometimes when I mean tomorrow. Time and I... we tend not to acknowlege eachother's existence. It's a bad habit. I think we're both working on it. (maybe)

Mostly, the month has been about getting back to normal. It's a weird task we've set ourselves, normalizing from what had become our normal.

I did a lot of writing, Earl did his own. I drank a lot of tea - the new Keurig got a hell of a work out. Lucy was adorable as usual....

As far as equalizing goes, I think we've done pretty well. Hopefully May will bring us new adventures as well as our own sort of peace and quiet. I'm itching to hit the road again.

Why I Want You and Your Dog to Leave Me and My Dog Alone

I take my little dust mop out for a walk 2 times each day. Those walks vary in length and distance, but there are always 2. This is largely because apartment living means it's the only time she gets a potty break.

(see the dustmop in question)

But the one thing that irks me about taking her out each day is not the walk itself, or even the time it takes. I signed on for all of that when I adopted her. The problem I have with our walks is that it seems like having a dog makes other dog owners think there's nothing wrong with coming over to strike up a conversation.

If I wanted that, I'd take her to the dog park.

Honestly, it's usually not a big deal. But my little fur face is an only child. When she does socialize with Earl's mom's dogs she more or less ignores them both. She's kind of stuck up like that. But she gets very territorial when she's on her leash, and so, when other dogs/dog owners come up, she get vocal and pushy and honestly, I don't want to have to deal with it. So most of the time I tell people as soon as I can (usually when they're close enough to ask if "he wants to play") the she's not good with other dogs. Some people listen. Some dont.

There's a guy who lives in my building who has two extremely poorly behaved dogs. The one, upon seeing another dog, will rush said dog and then, when it's at the end of its leash, it will stand on its back legs, trying to get closer. He will generally meander toward other dog-walkers with his pair straining to get to the other dogs.

I learned to avoid this guy the week I moved in. And it's not just me that he lets his dogs creep towards, though I've noticed he stays far away if Earl's out with me. Last week I saw that he was out, so I moved to the opposite end of the park, because it's just easier that way, and he started creeping toward a college age girl out with a little mop of a dog. Then when she turned her back, he dropped his dog's leashes and they charged her and her dog. No one was hurt in the making of this guy's attempt at a meet cute, but as an outside observer, it was ridiculously clear the thing had been manufactured.

I'm thinking about getting a yellow ribbon for Miss Lu's harness. As a small layer of "Leave us alone."
We'll see if it works.
But I totally get why people want to meet her.

Random Stuff From my Brain (2/52)

It’s the second full week of the year, and I’m still drinking a ridiculous amount of tea. (Huge surprise, I know – I’ve got a cup at my elbow as I write this now.)

Friend Alison pointed me toward a tumbler account, and – neurotic cleaner that I am – I’ve fallen in love. The tumbler is UnF*ckYourHabitat and it is a marvelous thing. Super motivating. And lots of before and after pictures, plus a solid plan for how to get yourself to living a less messed-up life.

Earl’s on the pager this week, so that means lots of stressful checking of the second phone… and no chance of going out at all until Friday. Mostly I’m missing the fact we can’t do long dog walks in the evenings.

Also, because I posted a picture on another blog Monday, my mother has discovered we have the same 365 tear-away calendar! The New Wordeach day one. Which is a fun little thing. I got mine from Earl’s dad as part of Christmas, and… well, I don’t know where she got hers, but I do think that’s pretty awesome.

I – the world’s worst phone-call maker EVER – finally got a call in to Lucy’s groomer. I should really just set up a recurring appointment. But my scruffy little ewok is going to get her crazy long hair dealt with! Just not this week… next.

And we’ve been going through the loads of Top Gear episodes on Hulu we haven’t watched yet – and some of the ones we’ve already seen too. They’re great for when you’re doing other things.

And here we have a look at my River Song hair.

Geek Girl in a New Year

A lot of stuff happened in 2013… and I expect even more will happen this year (what with getting married and all), but I’ve got a plan so I’ll be around more this year.

December got away from me (obviously). I always think I’m going to be so organized for the holiday season, and then when it gets here it’s like a mad dash to the finish. I really am going to try harder this year!

I’ll be switching to a posting schedule of MWF (with a rare exception), so hopefully that will keep me on my 2014 goal of constant posting.

Things to expect in the new year:

More geekery – I’m dedicating Mondays to “Fandom,” so I’ll be talking about the things I love.

Potentially neurotic posts – I’m sure at some point within the next three months, I’ll be on here with some sort of a rant about wedding stuff….

Copious pictures of my dog – she is, after all, the cute one in the family!
And… Me. I’m putting myself through a small challenge. One photo a week for the year… as a way to make myself care more about my own appearance – I can get to be frumpy. So, as an extra incentive to try, I’ll be posting those pictures here with my post on Wednesdays.
