The Apartment is a Mess

I feel like that title should prepare you for the fact this post will not have pictures.

And I guess said title might be a bit of an exageration... but it feels like a mess.

There's still some boxes of wedding stuff that need to be dealt with/packed away/repurposed. I didn't get all of the laundry finished yesterday, there are dishes in the sink that need doing and the kitchen pantry shelves have gotten completely out of hand. I spent an hour and a half working on my desk last night and it still has a ways to go.

But I'm okay with it. Sort of.

I'm coming to terms with the fact that this is an aspect of my life I'm going to have to let go from time to time. I'll have to sacrifice doing the dishes in order to get that chapter done on time. I'll leave the low priority laundry for another day so I can wisk out the door to a friend's birthday.

It's not going to kill anyone that there's a pile of boxes in the living room.

At least I hope not.

(It's a process, this new acceptance.)

Randomness on a Saturday Morning

I got an order in from ThinkGeek this past weekend (you already saw the hoodie from that), but the real reason for the order was that an item I’d been waiting on had come back into stock. (I could have bought it elsewhere, but it would have cost me $30 more, and I felt that was silly.) The new pretty is my Converge Docking Station for my iPad and iPhone. I’m totally in love with it.

Occasionally, I find myself realizing I was doing something in a rather idiotic manner. For instance, while using my sewing machine I was annoyed by a pin that kept hitting my thumb as I tried to guide fabric past the needle. Then I realized it was a simple fact of me holding the excess fabric to the wrong side (Do they make left handed sewing machines?) Or, when I needed to pull the unique part numbers from a spreadsheet from work, and in a mental lapse I totally spaced that I could sort the part numbers, and remove all duplicates to get down to the required numbers…. instead of going through each grouping and checking to see if I’d already gotten that number. Does that ever happen to you? Simple things you stupidly over complicate? I assume it can’t be just me…. but you never know.

Sometime in 2010 (I think) I stopped using the face wash I’d come to love. I’m not sure why. But At some point I stepped away from it in favor of something else and though that something else never really worked as well, it’s taken me this long to go back. As a result, I’m  working on a small project – probably only for myself, maybe I’ll share it on here – to see the difference this makes. In case you’re wondering, I went back to Aveeno Positively Radiant (and I’m betting somewhere along the line I thought it was silly to pay as much as I do for the face wash/moisturizer combined.)

This morning, I’m doing dishes, I’m doing laundry, I’m CLEANING ALL THE THINGS!!! (And of course I’m dusting because…. well, if you’ve never lived in a desert, you wouldn’t understand, but OMG THE DUST!) It’s a never ending cycle, isn’t it? I think the dishes are my least favorite. What’s yours?

A Note on Saturday Mornings

Some Saturday Mornings, Earl works a four hour shift. Its a rotating thing, so it only comes up every once in a while unless he voluntarily takes one.

Those mornings, like today, are always a little weird. We get up together rather early, and he leaves when I take the dog out for her morning constitutional. And then, the rest of the morning is mine.

For the most part, it's taken up by cleaning (the stuff that's easier to do by myself - and quicker when done that way) and placating a puppy who REALLLLLLY wants to play with her moose.

This morning, as an example, I've already gotten through a load of laundry and one of dishes as well as getting the hand washing done... Next is a quick jaunt to the trash room and general tidying.

And after I get through with my cleaning, then I get to settle in with my book and a nice cup of tea.

Goals: The Closet Before

Two weeks ago, I posted my "Get it Done Before 2013 List" And while I haven't made much headway, I thought I'd talk about one of them today... and show you the bulk of the issue with it.

The Closet.....

Gosh it's a mess. It's storing everything from my bread machine, to Earl's circular saw and other tools, to the ladder we borrowed from his mom, to the curtain rod for the bedroom (long metalic pole up front) to the costco-size pack of paper towels... and eight shoe boxes of baseball cards!

Luckily, we have these lovely curtains to hide it all from view (thanks to our awesome friends who lived in the apartment before.)
