Sex, Drugs, and Rock & Roll

Yesterday on my writing blog, I discussed Sex at work. Today, let’s talk about the second lovely thing in my title’s list.

Drugs.

This morning I got Adrug tested! Don’t worry, I have no fear of failing. But this is the first time I’ve been pulled in the random selection process since the six months in a row I was pulled directly after I started working here – five and a half years ago.

Back in the day, when you were pulled for a random, you got to drive ten minutes away to a lab facility and unceremoniously pee in a cup.

Now a days, you go to the bosses office (and thankfully don’t pee in a cup there). Once there he hands you two things. One is a hard marshmallow-looking sponge on a clear plastic popsicle stick. The other is a receptacle. So instead of peeing on a stick, you now get to suck on a sponge.

The sponge is hard and tastes awful, but once it softens, you can be pretty sure that you’ve got enough to put in the receptacle. Said receptacle is shaped in a way that when you put the sponge in and press, it acts like a sieve and your spit pools at soft eyedropper-like section at the bottom. You then place the cap on the receptacle and flip up the small dropper – it’s like the flip top on those round coolers that are meant for personal use… but infinitesimally smaller.

And then you drop three drops of saliva onto two sides of a test strip, one being the real test and one being the control…

Fun times.
