I do my best to keep my opinion on the more volatile of subjects (Religion, politics, etc) to myself. But I have to say I’m appalled enough to step away from that today.
Last Saturday, a tragedy occurred in Tuscon, AZ. Regardless of how you feel about anything else that happened/caused the shooting, people died. That is always a tragedy.
But what makes me sick to my stomach. What makes me literally ill, is that there are people out there that will manipulate a situation like this for their own political motives. The Westboro Baptist Church has decided they feel it not only appropriate, but necessary to protest at a nine-year-old little girl’s funeral.
You read that right. Nine.
Now, I don’t know all of the ins and outs of Baptist churches… and I’m not saying that all Baptist churches are on the same level as WBC – in fact, they’re far from it – but I was raised in a Christian church. I am appalled that a group of people who associate themselves with the Christian church feel that this level of hate-mongering is what God wants.
I’m going to tell you right now. This country does not act in a specifically godly manner (according to the Christian viewpoint) but ministering to the people should be an act of love, not an act of hate.
Protesting at the funeral of a soldier who had died in the service of their country doesn’t pull anyone to your cause, it makes you look insane.
Protesting at the funeral of an innocent nine year old girl who died in a tragic shooting makes you look like the biggest douche bags ever.
What happened to “love one another”?
Ugh, I hate to hear this. Makes me sad that they would see it necessary to disturb a little girl's funeral. And you're right, nothing but thinking they're jerks is going to come from this.
