Soup Mode

One of the other things that winter means for us is the arrival of Soup. In the summer months, Phoenix is much too hot to even consider indulging in a warming bowl of soup. So, as soon as the temperatures plummet, we go into soup mode.

But we don’t like canned soup… I always think it has a bit of a tinny taste and so, we make enormous pots of soup and toss the leftovers in the freezer. One of the most rewarding things about this is that we can get by spending a fraction of our normal food budget, because one pot of soup can last us for five meals…

Now, that’s not to say that we don’t eat other things. I don’t care how many different varietals you have… eating soup for months on end and nothing else will still get boring. But living on soup in the winter months works out very well for us.

Some of our winners have been Chicken and Rice, Beef Barley, Turkey Meatball, Pulled pork and peas, and Clam Chowder.

Because of these wonderful soups I’m declaring next week soup week. I’ll be posting one recipe per day for your enjoyment.

  1. Yum! Sadly, I just had canned tomato soup. I added some rice to tone down the metallic taste.
